RSQE is an economic modeling and forecasting unit which has been in operation at the University of Michigan since 1952. RSQE provides forecasts of the U.S. national economy on a seven-times-per-year basis and forecasts of the Michigan economy on a four-times-per-year basis.
A summary of the latest RSQE forecast is always available on this website; the latest U.S. forecast and the latest State of Michigan forecast. However, purchasing a Subscription provides the complete forecast and analysis of GDP and its major components, unemployment, price, interest rates, foreign trade, etc.
The University of Michigan's Annual Economic Outlook Conference, the oldest such event in the United States, is put on by RSQE and is held in Ann Arbor each November. The 55th Annual Economic Outlook Conference took place on November 15-16, 2007 at the Rackham Amphitheater. The program for the 55th Annual Outlook Conference, including the speakers and their topics, can be viewed on this website.
The attendees at the Conference are primarily upper level business and government economists and analysts from all over the country (with the Midwest over-represented) and from all manner of industry, plus local academics from the University of Michigan and the nearby region.
RSQE is directed by Economics Professor Saul H. Hymans. The senior professional staff includes Joan P. Crary, George A. Fulton, and Janet C. Wolfe. RSQE has twice received the prestigious Blue Chip Annual Economic Forecasting Award, AEFA, recognizing "accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism" in economic forecasting.
